We grow fresh figs in our greenhouses! It's not a crop most people expect to grow in Vermont, but with the right variety - and special attention - they thrive!

Most of what we grow is Chicago Hardy, a cold-tolerant fig of the Mount Etna type and a proven performer in northern growing. It's vigorous and forgiving: even in a hard year it fruits reliably on new growth, ripening to a deep mahogany-purple skin over jammy, berry-sweet pink flesh.

We're always trialing new hardy varieties. Part of the fun of growing figs in Vermont is finding out what else will thrive here — earlier ripeners to beat the fall frost, different flavors and colors, plants suited to our climate and our greenhouses.

 Our collection grows a little each season, and we're glad to compare notes with other growers chasing the same thing. If you've had luck with a hardy variety, we'd love to hear about it.

Fresh figs are a late-season treat, ripening from late summer into fall. They're delicate and don't keep long, so we sell them close to home and close to harvest. Reach out if you'd like to know when they're ready!
